Summary on Grant Application Form
The research will investigate the use of amorphous ferromagnetic alloys for the actuation of a hydraulic control valve to be driven from a PWM electrical signal. The mechanical construction will give a two position device suitable to provide a pulse output signal in the fluid which will be de-modulated by a hydraulic lag. The aim will be to construct a proof of concept valve to demonstrate the feasibility of the idea. Such a valve may fit into anyone of a wide range of application areas and be considered a commercial success. The real breakthrough would come if this design can be scaled to operate across a large number of application areas either as a direct control valve or as a pilot stage for a larger valve.
