Summary on Grant Application Form |
The research will provide a tool which will enable designers to change the shape of their structure and see the effects on stresses and displacements in real time. This will be an effective tool for preliminary design of engineering components. Use of the Boundary Element Method for engineering computations will allow rapid modification of the mathematical model. A partial reanalysis scheme, combined with design sensitivities, will rapidly revise the stresses and displacements. Such a tool will integrate readily with computer-aided design, manufacture and cost-estimating tools, and will guide a designer to a sensible engineering optimum early in the design process.
