Summary on Grant Application Form |
This project is concerned with the rational synthesis of organic materials that will exhibit auxetic behaviour. This will be done by basing the unit structure of the polymer upon an inverted honeycomb motif. Processability and molecular mobility are carefully designed into the structure by the use of semi-flexible spacers, solubilising groups, and an ultimate cross-linking step. The aim of the project is thus to determine whether organic auxetic materials are possible using reentrant cells.
