Summary on Grant Application Form
This project will address the prospects for matching building energy demand to autonomous renewable energy schemes without compromising the quality of the electrical power supply. The two issues of the quality of the power supply and the utilisation of renewable energy will be investigated.A building simulation program will be used to quantify the demand and renewable energy supply profiles for a number of representative building designs and locations. These profiles will then e imposed on a power condition model assuming alternative cooperative switching strategies. Data from experimental rigs will be used to calibrate the computer models. The overall aim is to quantify the likely power harmonics and determine appropriate conditioning techniques to main supply quality while ensuring maximum utilisation of the renewable energy.
