Summary on Grant Application Form
The prgramme is focused around a sampling exercise to be undertaken at the research site at Bothkennar. Four different types of sampler are to be used to obtain specimens which will then be tested to evaluate sample disturbances. Using techniques recently developed at Bristol we plan to measure anisotropic shear stiffness GO at very small strain (0.0001%) using piezo-bender elements on unconfined specimens on site immediately after sampling, after transportation and storage, and after reconsolidation in triaxial cell. Suction measurements will be made simultaneously.
