Summary on Grant Application Form
This application is for funding an extensive programme for the production, characterisation and physical measurement of magnetic layers and superlattices grown by MBE. The proposal contains a number of interrelated objectives outlined above with emphasis on the basic physics underpinning magnetotransport, coupling and magnetic moments. Novel features of the case include studies of non-ideal interfaces by point contacts, transport through domain walls, CPP weak localisation effects in aperiodic multilayers, growth of Fe/Cr (x), Fe/Mn(x) alloy layers for PNR studies and the development of MOKE-SNOM.These specific problems stem from the long-term interest in electron transport at Leeds and that is the central thrust of the proposal. However of equal importance to the outcome of the research is the exploitation of a range of characterisation techniques, some of which will be in-house and others by new and established collaborators.
