Summary on Grant Application Form |
We propose to use time resolved resonance Raman (TR3) investigations to further the fundamental understanding of the reaction dynamics in solution. This will use both Stokes and anti-Stokes spectroscopy and will involve the development of a 200 fs TR3 capability. The work will make detailed studies on the behavioural properties of newly excited molecules and how the ensuing structural perturbations are related to IVR, wavepacket dynamics, solvation and external energy disposal to the solvent bath. The way these processes are related can be decisive in determining the outcome of the activated chemical process and the work is relevant to many natural and synthetic process, particularly electron/proton transfer and intra-molecular transformations.
