Summary on Grant Application Form |
The final report of the Technology Foresight Panel on Construction (1995) identified the need for academic research and managerial development in construction companies to give greater attention to the strategic aspects of corporate organisations in oerder to achieve total quality. This view is also reiterated by The Royal Academy of Engineering in their call for corporate managment within the industry to exercise a more systematic approach in creating strategic vision for their enterprises. So far, the project orientation that predominates the construction industry has meant that the industry's focus on the strategic dimension has been rather informal. Planning in the industry has therefore become synonymous with project planning. If any progress can be achieved in the effectiveness of these companies, it will require a careful study of their current practices in order to evolve and incorporate more systematic approaches to contractors' strategic planning. The aim of this research is to provide a broad study on construction organisations in order to map out the processes of their strategic planning with the view to strengthening their overall competitiveness.
