|
This proposal aims to investigate the optimal efficiency of the extended enterprise in developing new products. The project will seek to develop a shared understanding of the operation of the extended enterprise as a coherent whole, and to provide supporting means for this shared vision. The project will adopt a combination of top-down and bottom-up approaches. Top-down involves the high level definition of the supply-chain based on a strategic overview. This will be elicited from senior personnel and cohered into a hierarchical organisation of models defining the core processes of the PIP for the extended enterprise. The bottom-up approach relates to the non-invasive sampling of selected live data from a range of PIP projects undertaken by the extended enterprise. This data will then be modelled using a combination of traditional and innovative task analysis tools. The activity models and process models provide both the means to simulate the extended enterprise as a human activity system, and the control variables to optimise the PIP for this system. Resultant process definition will be translated into training materials for use in the real worked to test improvements in PIP performance.
