Summary on Grant Application Form |
The proposed research forms part of a collaborative programme with GEC Marconi Research Centre and BSH Industries in the Foresight Vehicle Link Programme, addressing Communications for future vehicles. The overall programme plan is described in the main proposal document. Our contributions to each of the work packages described therein are:WP1. Collaborative in determining antennas and MMICs to achieve the required antenna specification.Issues to address here include: 1. Beam shaping and switching, 2. Impact of multiple access architectures (e.g. TDMA, FDMA, CDMA) on active antenna requirements, 3. Effects of vehicle structures and system configurations on isolation between antenna elements.WP3 Study effects of the proximity of dielectric sheets and other structures on performance of antennas integrated into numberplates, windscreens, headlamp units etc study novel array configurations, integrated with the roofs, bonnets or frameworks of vehicles.WP4 Assist at meetings and visits with potential manufacture, and devise on how key performance feature interact with vehicle design and manufacturing issues.WP5 The project will be managed by GEC Marconi Research. We will issue short monthly reports and longer reports at quarterly meetings. Additional informal technical progress meetings will be held as required.
