Summary on Grant Application Form |
The research will centre on the Renishaw Scanning Raman Microprobe based in the Physics Dept. We have now had about 4 years' experience of working with this instrument on, inter alia, these metal oxide systems in thin film, single crystal and bulk forms. We have investigated also device structures and multilayers based on the materials. To make optimal use of the VF's limited time, two specific issues will be addressed, crystalline texture in YBa2Cu3O7-8 thick films and Jahn-Teller effects in CMR materials. The appropriate sample sets will be assembled prior to his arrival and time will be scheduled on the SRM and also on ancillary instrumentation (XRD, AFM etc).A detailed internal report will be prepared near the end of the visit, to ensure that (i) there is full knowledge transfer to others utilising the SRM , (ii) to enable efficient completion if needed of either of the experimental studies (iii) to provide a basis for journal papers.
