Summary on Grant Application Form
We propose to study in detail the reaction paths that lead to the formation of oxygenates from the hydrogenation of carbon monoxide (Fischer-Tropsch reaction) over transition metal catalysts. We will use techniques that we have developed in Sheffield which have previously helped to elucidate alkene formation in the Fischer-Tropsch reaction. These include the study of model organometallic complexes, and the incorporation of isotopically labelled probes into the products of heterogeneous catalyses. The results from these studies will be extend ed to study the formation of amines in Fischer-Tropsch reactions when nitrogen containing components are added to the synthesis gas stream.
