Summary on Grant Application Form
The primary aim of the proposed research is to develop a new synthetic approach to the important antifungal galbonolides. Our route will uncover novel methodology for the construction of a key fragment of the immunosuppressant rapamycin and other natural products containing remote chiral centres. This work was devised to develop methods for remote asymmetric control and to incorporate diene functionality, to allow further elaboration of chirality. In addition we seek to explore the novel chemistry of an organozinc mediated rearrangement which will provide an ideal postgraduate training.
