Summary on Grant Application Form |
Our primary aim is to develop an intelligent procedure, based on a computer model, whereby the process engineer specifies a target separation requirement and the required separator geometry and operating conditions can be predicted. A fully three dimensional code will be developed for calculating hydrocyclone efficiency - they will be tested against conventional scale-up rules and against experimental measurements of axial and radial dispersed-phase concentration profiles obtained by imstrumenting the hydrocyclones with multiplate electrical resistacne imaging. Experimental work will focus on two important separations, namely oil/water and liquid/soil dewatering. The concept of bespoke hydrocyclone geometry design will be tested for these two systems and industrial collaborators.
