Summary on Grant Application Form |
The aim of this project is to develop models to explain the experimental data on the compaction of vibrated granular media. In particular we will;a) Explain the density gradient in vibrated granular media at low vibration ratesb) ;investigate the link between the vibrational intensity and the effective temperature in the thermodynamic theory of compaction;c) Investigate the properties and number of possible final steady states in compaction experiments.Investigate the transition from fluid-like to solid-like behaviour as a function of the intensity of vibration in horizontally and vertically vibrated granular media.
