Summary on Grant Application Form |
The major aim of the network will be to improve communication between academic and industrial groups or individuals with specific expertise in evolutionary and stochastic, adaptive search algorithms, their application to complex design problems and their integration with the various stages of the design and manufacturing process. Major network aspects will include interdisciplinary design exploration, multi-objective and constraint satisfaction and engineering decision support in addition to optimisation. The major adaptive computing techniques will include evolutionary and stochastic search algorithms. However a major role of the network will be related to promoting awareness within both academia an industry of emerging related techniques and the assessment of their utility across a wide range of engineering design/manufacturing domains. Although network activity will concentrate upon stochastic search as a foundation for design exploration and optimisation the network will also pay significant attention to the integration of other complementary computational intelligence techniques to enhance and support the search and optimization processes and to provide system representation, data analysis, processing and presentation capabilities. Such techniques will include neural computing, fussy sets and intelligent technologies in addition to related emerging technologies.
