Summary on Grant Application Form
Nanocrystalline soft magnetic alloys are already finding applications in wide areas of electrical engineering beacuse of their high permeability and low coercivity. However, they are usually used in situations where they are magnetised in complex ways under distorted flux conditions. Toroidal cores of nanocrystalline materials will be magnetised at 10 -100 kHz under csontrolled distorting magnetising conditions and permeability, loss components and B-H curves willl be measured. These will be compared with predicted values and also with measurments ande on amorphous and nickel iron cores to quantify their relative deterioration in performance under distorted waveforms.
