Summary on Grant Application Form |
Although the adoption of IT ahs long been acknowledged as a major enabler of business change, organisations face many practical problems when assessing their investments in IT:a) The difficulty of assessing alternative options with regard to legacy IT (e.g. abandon, change, maintain) when the associated business processes change.b) The inability to quantify the expected business impact of new IT on existing or planned business structures. ASSESS-IT will investigate the potential of discrete-event simulation modelling to support integrated Business Process Modelling (BPM) and information Systems Modelling (ISM), as a means of overcoming the above problems. The research will be based on existing knowledge on the application of simulation for modelling business structures. This knowledge will be extended to include the modelling of and experimentation with IT structures that support business processes (both legacy and new IT).ASSESS-IT will develop methodologies and techniques that will be tested an evaluated in real-life business settings with the collaboration of the project's industrial participants.
