Summary on Grant Application Form |
There is a growing interest in the control and communications technologies to enhance quality of life for the elderly in their own homes and assist care management by providers. However, existing research suggests that the field is highly fragmented and that user interface and system intelligence are primitive. This project will examine three main aspects of the feasibility of these systems:technical - to investigate the primary needs and perceptions of occupants and service providers and to develop guidelines for effective user interfaces; and economic - to establish the different options graded by cost to occupants and provider. The project sill use simulation methods to elucidate users' understanding other home environments and their possible reactions to technological developments.Th principal outputs will be a comprehensive guide to integrated telecare systems locating different options according to their technical, social and economic feasibility's, and a set of guidelines for developing more effective user interfaces to set the next generation of systems.
