Summary on Grant Application Form |
'Telecare' involves the development and use of information and communication system to provide new care services including remote monitoring and diagnostics, linking homes with medical and advice centers. These systems have the potential to be installed in peoples homes and used in association with new social care regimes to facilitate routine healthcare services. These systems can enable elderly people and those in need of regular medical care to live a more active and independent lives in their own homes - extending the quality of life. They also have the potential to save costs in care provision and within the health sector in general. This feasibility study aims to assess the potential market for telecare services in the UK, tracking trends in technical developments and identifying technical, social and economic issues to be considered in the development of such systems in further research and demonstration projects within the housing sector. It will also provide policy recommendations for housing providers, the Department of Health and the DERT Housing Directorate.
