|
Within the project interest is centred upon discontinuous worlds in which the environments explored by people do not map on to Euclidean space. Such systems confer many potential advantage in the design of commercial VE applications (examples include shopping, tourism, and education) but only if the difficulties they are likely to cause the user are anticipated and overcome. The project represents the convergence of interest by the Investigators in spatial representation, human-computer interaction and computer science. Building upon existing work at Cardiff and sing an advanced already established VE system, the project seeks to establish the range of types of discontinuous VEs and to investigate systematically the capacity of humans to navigate such worlds. The work will have impact upon models of cognitive representation within VEs and also upon design practice.
