Summary on Grant Application Form
In fluid dynamics, scientific computing, condensed matter physics, applied probability theory, and other fields, an awareness has been growing in the past decade of the importance and special features of non-standard eigenvalue problems, problems where eigenvectors may have negligible physical significance because they form a highly ill-conditioned basis. New ideas, new algorithms and new approaches to applications are called for. The proposer aims to continue to play a leading role internationally in advancing our understanding and capabilities in this area, pursuing research with equal emphasis on 1. mathematical fundamentals2. numerical algorithms and software3. scientific and industrial applications
