Summary on Grant Application Form |
In continuation of our successful programme on magnetic structures and phase transitions using x-ray MAGNETIC scattering, we wish to study mixed crystals of (antiferromagnetic) Uas and (ferromagnetic) Use using the X22C diffractometer at the NSLS, BNL, USA. We have been allocated peer-reviewed beamtime in March 1998, with a further at ESRF, Grenoble. The CRG beamline is in the final stages of preparation for the user programme.Measurements are to be made on two aspects, building on our previous Uas-Use experiments at X22C. First, the concentration and x-ray energy dependences of a new magnetic modulation discovered for a 20% Se sample are to be investigated for lower doping. Second, very anisotropic critical scattering lineshapes will be studied for small Se doping (<10%). On completion of these measurements, similar work on the Usb-Ute system is planned.
