Summary on Grant Application Form |
The proposed research develops from and builds on an existing software tool which will be used to increase understanding of the role of visualisation in software development. The existing software tool JAPE will initially be used and refined through an evaluation study with computer science undergraduates.Issues raised in previous research (e.g. Cox et al, 1995; Stenning et al, 1995) will be used to investigate both the relative effectiveness of visualisation in teaching formal reasoning across groups and the cognitive factors which may account for differences among groups. The outcomes of the project are expected to contribute to engineering science knowledge I software design.
