Summary on Grant Application Form |
It is proposed to investigate how sensors and data analysis based on pipeline signature, pattern recognition interpretation methods can be used to build a Neural Expert System which will automatically and continuously monitor a distribution network for normal and abnormal behaviour. Alarms will be raised when failure or leaks are detected and information about the location supplied. The proposed work aims to increase the effectiveness of water distribution management methods using high-density sensing of pipeline characteristics (e.g. pressure, strain, flow, temperature, acoustic response), with low-cost sensors supported by data-capture systems, artificial neural network, data fusion, rule based system and a spatial-temporal database to indicate current network state, and to predict and detect leakage.
