Summary on Grant Application Form |
This project will carry out research into three novel schemes which will improve the performance of grid connected PV inverters. The first scheme addresses the control of low order harmonics so that harmonic cancellation occurs in multiple inverter systems. Low order harmonics are the result of controller deficiencies and with appropriate control can be made to be uncorrellated with resulting cancellation and improved power quality. The second scheme is concerned with the elimination of the DC current component in the inverter output which is important for grid connection. The approach makes use of a novel sensor autocalibration technique which overcomes errors due to the current sensor. The technique removes the need for a large and heavy mains frequency isolation transformer. The third scheme will apply an adaptive digital filter to supply voltage phase detection to produce a more robust inverter synchronisation.
