Summary on Grant Application Form |
1. To study and capture the requirements for visualising the effects of dimensional variation of individual components on the quality of the final assembly in terms of gap profile, flushness and clash.2. To implement published mathematical representation of component variation (dimension and tolerance) and to implement new mathematical representations of assembly variation.3. To develop an interactive virtual prototyping environment incorporating state-of-the-art algorithms for interactive assembly constraint detection and satisfaction, and physical force system and kinematics simulation within an environment that will incorporate the work under objective 2.4. To build, evaluate and disseminate a series of 'proof of concept' technology demonstrators. The demonstrators will be evaluated for their effectiveness in identifying potential quality problems5. To identify the issues associated with communication between geographically remote members of the automotive supply chain and how it is assisted by the visualisation of the emerging product.6. To identify and quantify the metrics and business benefits of the technology and an implementation plan that specifies how to integrate the technology to improve the business process.
