Summary on Grant Application Form
ENTA aims to assist developers of networked multimedia applications to identify required levels of audio and video quality. The network research community is establishing Quality of Service (QoS) requirements at the networked Level. There is no straightforward link between those technical QoS parameters, and the quality of audio and video as perceived by end-users. Users' perception of audio and video quality in networked applications is task dependent. Designers of multimedia applications and providers of networkTo develop taxonomy of tasks for networked multimedia applications, and to identify minimum and maximum audio and video quality thresholds for those task. The taxonomy, and accompanying guidelines will allow designers and service providers to identify appropriate levels of audio and video quality, and provide further guidance on factors which are likely to impact user perception and effectiveness of applications and services. We will also compile a catalogue of methods for assessing audio and video quality. The project aims to generate a framework and set of instruments for evaluating networked multimedia applications. The beneficiaries include developers of applications; service providers and organisations selecting networked multimedia applications.
