Summary on Grant Application Form
A network will be established comprising about 30 researchers with established interests in the synthesis, characterisation and application of polymer materials. The composition of the network will reflect the central aims of this proposal by bringing together state of the art expertise in x-ray scattering using synchrotron radiation with that in physical and chemical techniques for investigating structure/property relationships in polymer materials and in particular in techniques to complement x-ray scattering, especially to assist in applications to understand polymer behaviour in industrial applications. It is anticipated that this expertise will be drawn predominantly from the UK but, where appropriate , also from Europe and North America. The network will be supported by an Information Server which in addition to providing an interactive Newsgroup facility will support an expanding database, maintain and allow downloading of software and provide links to other sources of information and expertise. Overall strategy and priorities will be determined by annual two day meetings. Pump priming, through support of individual visits between laboratories, will encourage the development of collaborative proposals to the stage where they can be competitive in seeking external funding from EPSRC and industry.
