Summary on Grant Application Form |
Variable wavelength laser photoactivation will be used to generate novel platinum and other metal complexes in solution via ligand substitution and redox reactions which will be monitored directly in the probe of a high field NMR spectrometer. Complementary studies of adsorption spectroscopy and chromatography will be carries out. These new species are expected to undergo are expected to undergo unusual reactions with biomolecules such as DNA and proteins and provide the basis for a new class of agents for use in photodynamic therapy. The project will contribute to the EC COST D8 Action The Chemistry of Metals in Medicine .
