Summary on Grant Application Form |
Very recently we discovered a new phase, NaBi3V2010. Preliminary results show this phase to exhibit oxide ion conduction especially above a reversible phase transition at 575oC. In this study we shall determine the crystal structure(s) of the low and high temperature polymorphs using X-ray (XRD) and Neutron Diffraction and after further electrical characterisation via ac impedance spectroscopy (acIS) and concentration (emf) cell measurements, undertake systematic doping studies in order to optimise its conductivity. All samples will be prepared via the mixed oxide route and characterised using XRD, Electron Probe Micro-Analysis (EPMA), thermal analysis, electron micropscopy, acIS and emf measurements. If time permits, new phases that are isostructural with MaBi3V2010 and which may possess high ionic or mixed ionic and electronic conduction properties will be pursued.
