Summary on Grant Application Form
Rolls-Royce, British Aerospace and Southampton University aim to establish a new research centre that exploits the considerable depth and breadth of multi-disciplinary engineering exoertise in the University to help provide R-R and BAe with state-of-the-art capabilities in advanced design technology. This centre will form one leg of a three centred University Technology Partneship in the field of design and will inherently be multi-disciplinary and multi-company. The centre will provide the companies with direct access to leading academics with world class research records in the field of design search and exploration and will allow for strategic research to be carried out in topics of direct relevance to the U.K. aerospace sector. The key mechanism for the delivery of new design methods will be in the form of technology demonstrator software backed up by reports and publications in open literature. All three legs of the UTP will also engage in a number of technology transfer activities including the holding of seminars and hosting secondments of company staff.
