Summary on Grant Application Form |
A combination of classical co-ordination chemistry and supramolecular chemistry will be used to design ligand systems to extract metal salts from aqueous streams. Such systems would open up completely new routes to the recovery of metals from both primary and secondary sources. The feasibility of assembly complexes containing a metal ion, attendant anion(s) and suitable receptors in hydrocarbons will be tested by exploiting secondary bonding interactions between the components which are favoured in such non-polar solvents.
