Summary on Grant Application Form
We propose to continue our successful programme of single crystal growth using Infra Red Image Furnace. Crystals of a number of different oxide and carbide systems will grown including superconductors, CMR materials, spin-Peirls compounds and frustated and low dimensional magnetic materials. Our programme is based on 2 Image Furnaces. Our current NEC model and new CSI furnace with several additional features which will enable us to prepare a wider range of materials under a more extreme range of conditions including high pressures, vacuum conditions and growth with solvents. The crystals will be used in all our own EPSRC funded project and will also be made available to collaborating scientists here in the UK and abroad. We plan to involve scientists from other UK institution who come forward with requests for crystals of materials which can best be prepared in an Infra Red Image Furnace.
