Summary on Grant Application Form |
The prime objective of this proposal is to upgrade our provision of crystallographic services to a School already comprising over 100 research workers, by adopting the forefront technology of CCD detectors. It is clear that only research organisations with this facility will be competitive internationally in the next millennium. The high resolution data available from a CCD system will enable us to deal effectively with structures exhibiting disorder and/or large asymmetric units, and crystals too small to generate adequate data sets for crystal engineering and other specialist areas. This increased capacity will also enable us to meet the increasing general demand for routine crystal structure analysis and for the training of postgraduate research students in the processing of their own data, and to perform the slow data collections required in electron density/charge density studies.
