Summary on Grant Application Form |
Micromagnetic simulations of the properties of magnetic materials have been carried out for the past 15 years and have been responsible for significant advances in our understanding of the properties of advanced magnetic materials. The UWBangor group has been at the forefront of developments in micromagnetism, including the development of computational approaches to thermally activated relaxation and the relationship between magnetic properties and physical microstructure. Both of these areas require intensive computational resources. The forthcoming generation of fast processors with large memories will enable the development if novel approaches in order to improve significantly the resolution of the calculation of which we are capable. The proposal requests computer equipment which will be applied in three specific projects. These cover specific structured materials which are especially important both scientifically and in terms of potential applications.
