Summary on Grant Application Form |
The equipment sought in this proposal is to replace a 13 year old solid state NMR console which is becoming increasingly unreliable and is unable to undertake some of the recently developed NMR experiments. It will be used for the characterisation of materials providing novel atomic scale information on a range of disordered (both atomically and structurally) inorganic solids such as sol-gels, glasses, ceramics, nanophases, minerals and zeolites, and the electronic structure of high Tc superconductors. The team of applicants have been significantly engaged in many developments in the application of solid state NMR to materials characterisation because of the synergy of interests within the group and have worked closely together since the very first high resolution solid state NMR experiments in the Department. The new facility requested here is a vital component for the continued international competitiveness of the materials research of the Department at Warwick. This equipment will allow us to extend philosophy that the very latest techniques should be readily usable by non-specialists.
