Summary on Grant Application Form |
The proposal seeks to record eye-movement behaviour while human subjects perform visual search tasks. The search tasks will be designed to be hard and thus require multiple fixations. The primary aim is to develop a syntax for the eye movements, which relates the patterns and duration of fixations to the nature of both the display elements and task demands. Three factors that may influence these eye-movement patterns will be investigated.1. The similarity between the distractor and the target;2. The effect of item density and3. The effect of a time constraint within the task.A Clear understanding of the structure of eye-movements in search will provide constrains for the design of optimal visual displays for human-computer interactions.
