Summary on Grant Application Form |
Following an approach from Tohoko University in Japan, a Japanese Postdoctoral Fellow is spending one year at the University of Glamorgan investigating factors affecting the production of hydrogen fermentatively by mixed microflora. In order to maximise the results of this collaboration this proposal seeks funding to allow the operation of reactors continuously, rather than just in batch mode, and also to investigate product inhibition. The salary and international travel of the Postdoctoral Fellow is already paid by Japan and therefore this proposal is very cost effective. It is expected that at the end of this one-year project, further collaboration on an extension to this work will result. Processes allowing the sustainable production of hydrogen, an ideal fuel, from waste organic matter, are of interest to both the energy and waste treatment industries.
