Summary on Grant Application Form |
This project is aimed at providing the ability to conduct in an integrated environment the processes of analysis, design and detailing using models that are compatible with the as-built structure. It is further aimed at supporting designers in carrying out an effective and creative process of conceptual design with the ability to quickly appraise alternative schemes for economy and workability while ensuring such schemes fulfil the required functions. The project involves the close collaboration of industry and include partners from material suppliers, design consultant, fabricator and contractor, and software developer. The objectives of project includes: determining a best-practice approach to the design of multi-storey steel structures; ensuring fidelity of analysis and design models to the as-built structure; facilitating the conduct of an intuitive and creative design process within an integrated system; assisting in the making of informed decisions by providing a means to economically appraise design options and a knowledge based system to advice on safety and practicability issues. The main deliverable of the project is: an integrated software system that satisfies the above objectives and applied mainly to the design of irregular multi-storey steel buildings.
