Summary on Grant Application Form |
This project will develop a hybrid scanning reflectance anisotropy/atomic force microscope. The instrument will be capable of measuring surface morphology with 1-10nm resolution. Optical images in reflectance or anisotropy modes will be gathered from the sample at the same time as atomic force measurements. The force images will provide morphological information whilst the optical images will provide chemical information. Thus the nature of defects or localised structures such as quantum dots can be investigated in an entirely new way. This prototype will open up a new avenue of research and provide truly simultaneous measurements for the first time.
