We intend to prepare selective and robust catalysts that harness the activity of enzymes by supporting them on the well-defined internal surfaces of a recently-discovered class of mesoporous solid, the members of which possess pore sizes up to 50nm. We will choose enzymes with activity in the synthesis of fine chemicals and assess their performance in aqueous and non-aqueous solution. We will also examine the activity of peroxidase enzymes for oxidations of environmental use.
