Summary on Grant Application Form |
Digital image and multidimensional signal processing have become important areas of research in engineering and other disciplines. One of the most frequent operations encountered in these fields are convolution & correlation, which are used in filtering, enhancement and recognition etc. As the demand for real time resolution images is ever increasing, the processing speed of these functions becomes a major concern in many fields of Engineering . This has lead to an increasing interest in the development and use of parallel algorithms aiming at high speed and throughput rate. Another approach which was also used extensively is the block processing based on the overlapping add and safe methods. However, these methods have problems and they are not fully efficient. Therefore, the purpose of the proposed research is to overcome the problem of overlapping segments in the block convolution algorithms and will overcome the problem of the boundary condition when paralleling in a filter. This will lead to faster and more efficient algorithms for the calculation of multidimensional convolution / correlation and related problems.
