|
We propose to study, by time-lapse video imaging, spatio-temporal pattern formation in tow far-from-equilibrium systems: an evaporating droplet of colloidal fluid, and the interpenetration of a polymer solution and a colloidal suspension placed next to each other. The proposed programme is based on preliminary observations in which unexpected and visually dramatic instabilities were observed. The results obtained should be of broad interest to investigators of non-equilibrium phenomena in condensed matter physics in general, and to soft condense matter physicist in particular.
