Summary on Grant Application Form |
The presently unique HPNMR flow cell will be used in conjunction with HPIR spectroscopy, to detect intermediates and elucidate the mechanism of the Ru-catalysed asymmetric hydrogenation of ketones (at<50 atm H2). Cationic rhodium complexes of the type trans-[RhCl2(LL)(L'L')]+(LL=PR3 or diphosphine; L'L'= diamine) will also be prepared with achiral/chiral ligands in order to perform analogous to test their hydrogenation activity and 'in situ' spectroscopic measurements will be used to characterise their mechanisms of hydrogenation.
