Summary on Grant Application Form |
Outline programme in chronological order:1. Student initiation, and purchase and modification of photochemical equipment.2. Synthesis of selected ionic liquids.3. Examination of the UV-visible absorptions and photostabilties of the ionic liquids, and assessment of their suitability as solvents for photochemistry.4. Measurement of photophysical properties of solutes in the ionic liquids.5. Synthesis of one or two simple alkene-imines and one or two indole precursors, followed by a study of their photocyclizations in ionic liquids.6. Study of Triplex Diels-Alder reactions using achiral photosensitizers and ionic liquids.7. Study of cationic polymerization in ionic liquids, using both organic and organometallic initiators.8. Study of inorganic photochemistry.9. Synthesis of chiral photosensitizers and ionic liquids for a study of chiral Diels-Alder reactions.
