Summary on Grant Application Form |
In order to effectively manage the long term sustainable development of intermodal transport hubs tools are required to allow planners to anticipate future environmental and infrastructure constraints and hence fully expoit the benefits whcih acrue to the region. This research programme will investigate these complex relationships and develop a generic, strategic, decision support system of 'sustainability indicators, for the planning and operation of airport intermodal transport hubs, using Manchster Airport as a case study. The research to be conducted at MMU will involve three stages:(i) investigations of the development of environmental controls at airports and a detailed examination of Manchester Airports infrastructure and environmental capacities.(ii) Collation of the data and preparation of a database for use in the modelling to be conducted by Loughborough University.(iii) Testing and evaluation of the model and development of the generic decision supprt tools.
