|
In order to effectively manage the long term sustainable development of intermodal transport hubs, tools are required to allow planners to anticipate future environmental and infrastructure constraints and hence fully exploit the benefits which accrue to the region.This research programme will investigate these complex relationships and develop a generic, strategic, decision support system of 'sustainability indicators' for the planning and operation of airport intermodal transport hubs, using Manchester Airport as a case study.The research to be conducted at Loughborough will involve three stages:(i) Identification and development of indices of environmental capacity together with collation of the data and preparation of a database for use in the modelling efforts.(ii) Specification and training of the neural network on the database and development and testing of the genetic algorithm from this output.(iii) Development and testing of the generic decision support tools.
