Summary on Grant Application Form |
Ultrasound will be deployed in a voltammetric analytical cell so as to significantly extend the range of applicability of electrochemical measurements and, in particular, allow the simple and efficient detection of a large range of target species, but especially metals, in media which otherwise defies such investigation. The work will build on and exploit much recent fundamental work in the area, notably to construct analytically applicable sonotrodes so that insonation and voltammetry are conducted with the same device which should enjoy very high rates of mass transport (sub-micron diffusion layer thicknesses), cavitationally induced activation in otherwise passivating media and ultrasonically mediating extraction from chemically complexing substrates within the target solution. All these features offer possibilities for the significant enlargement of the applicability of voltammetric analytical methods. Diverse real world applications will be investigated.
