PORTABLE ATTENUATED TOTAL REFLECTANCE INSTRUMENT FOR CHEMICAL IMAGING ANALYSIS (PATRICIA)This module is concerned with the development of a portable analytical system, which can be operated routinely as a low cost test and can be transported to a new analytical site as required. The monitoring system under investigation here is based on an attenuated total reflection (ATR) architecture and the programme has two elements: the development of the portable instrument for multi-analysis and the production of materials which allow the detection of the target analytes and which can be fabricated in a low cost ATR transduction format. The instrument proposed here may have application in vapour or liquid phase and depending on the materials employed may operate across a broad temperature range; it will also be employed in the UEA module and explored by the industrial Partners for other specific and generic applications. The analytical targets of this module will be the atmospheric emissions, with detection levels up to 5000ppm for NOx, 2000ppm for SO2, and ~ 5% for CO and ~ 20% for CO2.
